What are the personality traits that really drive you nuts and make it hard for you to maintain a relationship with someone? Was discussing this with a friend this week and discovered we had really different perspectives on this -- stuff that drove my friend crazy didn't bother me at all and vice versa (luckily I don't think I either of us has a button-pushing trait for the other!). So now I'm curious what other people's are. Here are mine: - People who brag - Related to bragging: know-it-alls - People who are often late or forgetful AND never apologize or recognize how this impacts others. I have some late/forgetful people in my life but they are self-aware of the trait and when they know they've really inconvenienced someone, they apologize and actually work to avoid it. When people act indifferent to the impact this has, it drives me up a wall. - Gossips What are yours?
You must hate DC thenš¤£
Fair point! I think DC is what has made me so averse to braggarts and know-it-alls, though. I think before I moved here I might have found it annoying but not intolerable. Now when I meet someone who is NOT like that, I'm immediately interested in hanging out more! And that's kind of what my convo with my friend was about. Her biggest pet peeve is people who are indecisive or passive. We know someone like this and while I don't love it, it doesn't really get under my skin. It's more like "oh, I'm making plans with Larla so I know I'm going to need to come in with a concrete plan." But that's it. But my friend will lose it around this person, it's too much. On the other hand, my friend can be around people who do nothing but brag about their job or their vacation or what semi-famous person they know and be unbothered. Or even find it entertaining. But I'll be gritting my teeth and looking for an exit ASAP. It's really interesting to me!
