If course he is. Youngkin isn’t trying to improve public education, he’s trying to drive it into the ground to justify allowing for-profit schools that enrich his friends, and give his own kids more advantages by dumbing down their competition.
I think you're assigning more competence to him than he deserves. From where i sit, he's coming across like a bumbling idiot in his first two weeks as a direct result of the advice he's getting from the people he surrounded himself with, which includes a merry band of rejects from the failed Trump administration. This is why he's aligned with people who think children should be taught about the time Abraham Lincoln debated Frederick Douglass, why he's picking fights about masks with northern Virginia constituencies who rejected him and setting up a Stasi for people to report on teachers (that is already being bombarded by TikTok trolls with ridiculous trolling). He wanted to be a governor. He likes being in charge. This was an ego project -- he isn't so loaded that he can blast himself into space so he thought he'd run for office instead. He never had a real agenda, sinister or otherwise. He sort of got lucky with the McAuliffe truth about how parents don't and shouldn't control education because the way McAuliffe said it was so clumsy and came across as a gaffe. His inexperience is to be expected. I just didn't expect he'd be like a bull in a China shop so soon and reveal himself as the fool he obviously is.
