I am going to assume you don't watch a lot of tennis to know how rankings in the WTA and ATP works.  Rankings are notoriously questionable, especially with covid in the last year canceling events.  Slam winners are given 2000 points, followed by other annual events that can give players 1000, 500, etc.  If a player does not participate and win in the event, their points expires and the rankings shift.

Raducanu was still in high school last May, taking her A levels.  She barely has a few real tournament participation under her belt.  I would not call her win at US Open a fluke, more so than the fact she happened to play really well at that time.  Shows potentially but no one really knows what her true level is.  Poor girl has a target on her back with everyone wanting to beat the US Open champ.

I would say her ranking is likely around top 100 rather than the inflated #18 from her Slam point winnings.  I also saw her recent match plays at the Australian Open.  Between Covid knocking out her pre-season preparation, blisters from trying to ramp up her training, I thought she did well.  Excited to see what she brings to the women's tour in another year or two.  At the least, she seems like a nice human.[/quote]
