Maybe she finds it anxiety-reducing and/or she's used to watching them with her tween. Does she refuse to watch non-animated shows with you? Does she talk about the cartoons all the time?
NP. The bold is good to ask yourself, OP. Important questions. Cartoons per se, even what you deem "kiddie" cartoons, are not necessarily childish. "South Park" and "The Simpsons" etc. are not the only cartoons aimed at teens and adults. Are you sure she's really watching babyish ones, or is she just not watching the ones you think of as "for adults"? There's a huge range aimed at tweens, teens and adults. If she's watching WITH her tween, they're more likely watching stuff like "Avatar: The Last Airbender," not "Doc McStuffins." If she's genuinely watching cartoons aimed at preschoolers, she might be using it, as a PP said, to reduce anxiety. Why not simply show an interest in this hobby of hers and ask, "What is it that attracts you to this show? Tell me about it." She might have reasons you'd never imagine and they might be good ones. You should be open to finding out why she enjoys these shows. The fact you're using the term "weird" is kind of a red flag re: your own choice to judge her without actually simply asking her and having a discussion like a mature, dating couple would have.
