It took me a long time to figure out that a lot if my anxiety issues stemmed from being constantly “corrected” by my mom growing up. And interestingly, that anxiety gets spiked now when I encounter this kind of criticism, even if it’s not directed at me. This is why I find gossip really stressful. Hearing criticism that feels like it should be none of the criticizes business just makes me feel like nothing I do is ever good enough, and no matter how hard I try, the people around me won’t be satisfied.
