I agree.  I also think there is a lot more understanding of learning challenges for all kids than there was 20 years.  I think it's incorrect to say that that kids have to sit for 8 hours, I see movement incorporated into learning at all grade levels (we're in FCPS).  I also know that when I was in elementary school, we sat for far longer than today's kids do even though we had recess twice a day.  I think more homework comes home but I don't make my kids do it.  They're tired when they get home and it would cut into what little family time we have.  I've spoken to all the teachers about it and haven't gotten any flak. I don't care about test results.[/quote]
