Virtual debate workshops are the perfect opportunity for your incoming 6th-9th grade child to participate in a productive educational activity, learn crucial academic and life skills, and, most importantly, have fun and discover a new passion, all from home! Sign up form: https://forms.gle/KyUj9AsRwx8CBbhg8 Hello parents! Our names are Sophie Bresnicky and Nicole Vanderzon, and we are both Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School alumni. Nicole is a sophomore at Georgetown University, where she is majoring in International Politics with minors in Spanish and Justice & Peace Studies. Sophie is a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill, where she is double majoring in Political Science and Global Studies with a minor in Entrepreneurship. We have been debating together competitively for six years, and were captains of the BCC debate team from 2018-2020. We have also coached middle school debate together for five years, and over the past two summers we have run several sessions of an introductory debate workshop for 6th-9th grade students. We are excited to be expanding that program for students who are interested in starting debate during the school year, and we hope your child(ren) will be able to join us! Our 7 week program will run on Mondays from 5-6:30pm on the following dates: - January 24th - January 31st - February 7th - February 14th - February 21st - February 28th - March 7th Additional information: - Our workshop is $250 per debater - The program is primarily designed for students in 6th-9th grades. However, if your student falls outside this age range and would still like to participate, we may be able to accommodate them. Benefits of your child starting debate: - Improve their public speaking skills - Learn to construct a logical argument - Engage in arguments in a civilized manner - Understand multiple perspectives on an issue - Stay up to date on current world news topics and issues - Develop the ability to distinguish reliable sources from unreliable sources - Gather relevant evidence to support a claim - Analyze evidence and draw conclusions - Apply these skills to other academic subjects, such as English and History - Improve their resume for high school and college applications We hope that your child is interested in starting debate with us this fall! Please fill out this link to sign up. https://forms.gle/KyUj9AsRwx8CBbhg8 Sophie and Nicole
