We test drove the Y. DH has been all-in on getting one. I did not like the way it drove AT ALL. Apparently the jerkiness can be turned off (there is something in the braking that makes it more jerky if you want to increase milage). We didn't know you could turn it off, so I don't know what it feels like if it is off. But, given how it felt with the regenerative braking on, I was totally a "no." The space inside was impressive for the Y. I didn't think it would be as spacious as it turned out to be. I also did not like how you have to use the touch screen to do anything (like change the ventilation or music). That seemed dangerous to me. In addition, it just felt like too much of a departure from what you have always known about a dashboard. There is nothing at all in the dash. I felt like it would take a lot of mental energy/distraction to get used to driving it. I'm curious how Tesla owners are feeling about driving it in the snow. The sales guy said that it wasn't very good in the snow. In theory, I like the idea of an EV. But, I have a lot of concerns about a car that is so expensive when other suitable vehicles are available at a lower price (i.e. why buy a stake if a hamburger will satisfy your hunger?). I feel more comfortable with the idea of the RAV4 prime -- which would give EV for most trips, but still allow for longer range with gas engine. I also worry about DH owning a "Tesla" (ooh la la), and having the mindset that he can't haul X or do Y with his car (i.e. drive in the rain or snow) because he has to baby the expensive machine. Lastly, I've come to realize that Musk is a huge jackass and mysogynist.... and runs his company like a 14 yr old. So, I have a hard time wanting to support him. DH is a space nut, so he is all about supporting the space exploration of Musk's company. Oops! This is actually my last concern: FIRES. My DD sleeps above our garage. I worry about a Tesla fire burning our house down and killing her. I know it's remote. But, Teslas do catch fire and they are nearly impossible to stop when they start. So, I don't want the Tesla in our garage should DH get one. And that's going to be a problem, b/c we always keep our cars in the garage. Just some things to think about.
