DH and I don't have any family in VA and I wouldn't want to ask one of our relatively new friends to be an executor.[/quote] You can have a non-resident as executor, but the estate must have a virginia resident agent. That said, it is a complete and utter pain in the butt to administer an estate even from a different area within virginia, I would never want to deal with handling an out of state estate unless I was forced to.
