At the beginning of the year the buses were late and we were told that due to a bus driver shortage. The next day buses were magically on the road. A month later we were told there would need to be a route change. The funny thing is that the parents did an analysis and found out only one bus was actually removed compared to last year and the beginning of the year. Also some of the routes were unchanged while others were altered to abnormally increase their travel times (they criss-crossed versus one bus just covering one section). The bus removed was placed on a different route but still on the road. Then we found out some buses were only half or less full while others had kids sitting in the aisles. That's still the current state the routes are in now. I don't know what financial issues happened, but if part of it was angling to get more taxpayer funding by artificially creating a crisis - I hope they put our routes back to the way they were! :)
There actually is a bus driver shortage, nationally, as well as in MCPS. The buses are "magically" on the road because they have people who aren't bus drivers driving them (i.e., route supervisors, managers, etc.). There are always route changes at the beginning of the year. There are always buses with empty seats and buses that are overly full. There are always complaints about the length of bus routes - or, more concisely, there are always complaints.
Well said
Thanks! I am well paid to post garbage on social media all day!
