A second tennis question from a new poster. I've always wanted to learn how to play tennis but it just never happened for me. 40 years and 3 kids later, and I'm in a place where I have the time/money to do so if I wanted. Is it too late? My fitness level is not amazing, but I can huff my way through a mile run.
I’m 51. Started tennis during pandemic & love it! I made the mistake of practicing serves once, when my coach wasn’t able to do our normal lesson. One hour + ~300 served balls later, my serve was somewhat better, but my arm was useless for the rest of the week. So, get a good coach and start out gently! In the beginning, your coach will probably be bouncing balls to you that are really controlled, so you can get some basic strokes in place. It doesn’t require a ton of aerobic conditioning @ this stage. Eventually, you will work up to games, and then you will run (or be made to run!) all over the court. So, use your off days now to build up your conditioning and stamina. I love it because each game is different, so I never get bored. I also *have* to focus on the game at hand, which really helps me shut out everything else in a way that I was never able to do with yoga or spin class. So, in an odd way, it gives me a mental break from the rest of my worries.
