Otherwise a warm hoodie is the standard for most kids. If you can pick up rain/snow boots or waterproof gloves from a thrift store or on sale at Target, that's great, but I wouldn't spend a ton of money on something they'll likely outgrow before they ever get to use them.

You don't say how old your kids are, but for younger elementary kids, something like the 3-in-1 jackets from Land's End is a great choice. The fleece lining is fine for most days, or the waterproof outer shell on rainy/slushy ones, and for the few cold weeks of the year (usually January or February), they can wear them together. But by 5th or 6th grade, my daughter wouldn't have been caught dead in one, and she's not really a trend-conscious kid. I think it was mainly the colors that seemed babyish. [/quote]
