It feels like sacrilege to paint solid cherry cabinets!! I think white counters with squared edges might make a difference. Maybe also a more modern backsplash? Another thing that can make a huge difference is hardware. We have shaker style cherry cabinets (that we had installed), and I suspect my tastes are more traditional than yours, but we have more modern looking hardware...and it really does make a difference to the overall aesthetic.[/quote]
