I was inspired by the other thread about an in-home daycare. I live in a SFH with just over 1/2 acre in Virginia. Backyard is already fenced and has a small playground. My house was built before 1978 but the paint and wallpaper are recent. For the past 9 years I’ve been a SAHM and my kids are all in ES now. I hold a BS in science where I focused on developmental neuroscience and a BA in piano performance. I do not have Montessori training but my kids attend a Montessori preschool and I was in Montessori myself through ES. I taught all three of my kids to read before kindergarten. If I opened a daycare, I might call it “X” Academy for the Arts and Sciences and focus on the enrichment activities I did for science, music, and reading with my kids. (Where X is the town where I live…Arlington, Vienna, Leesburg, etc.) Would you put your kid in my daycare, if I started one? If so, what would you pay? Also, how many weeks of vacation would be reasonable? I would prefer 3-4 weeks but I’m not sure that’s practical. Has covid increased or decreased the demand for daycare? I would probably not require masks. My kids will soon hopefully be vaccinated and I don’t think it is practical at younger ages.
