OP here--the diagnosis was through both a developmental pediatrician and a pediatric neuropsychologist (both private). What private schools would you recommend in this area? or are there public schools we should be thinking of? Is the IEP process hard with the MCPS school district? I have heard you have to hire a lawyer or advocate to help you or they will ignore you. Sorry, this is all so much to take in.
My kid has a different dx but the ChildFind process in MCPS at this age was amazing for us. Everyone we interacted was kind and very child oriented. We were able to get support despite high academic performance with very little issue. I know not everyone has this experience but for us it was wonderful. Implementation is up to the school and thus far has been good for us too. See what you can find out about the local school while you look into private. My kid struggled with extended time in the car so a private school 20 minutes away was not a good fit for us, especially since we can walk to local school. Just my experience.
