That’s the thing though, they won’t get a chance as it’s a huge turnoff. They’d have a better chance if they were honest upfront and I chose to date them anyways
Ah, but they have learned the hard way you won't chose to date them anyway. The average male height (at 20 years old) in the US is 5'9", which is almost exactly the average -minimum- height women specify in online dating. https://www.healthline.com/health/average-height-for-men#u.s.-height "Relatedly, a study about height and human mate choice found that, on average, the shortest man a woman would date is 5 feet 9 inches tall. " https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/after-service/201909/5-reasons-why-women-and-men-care-about-height A 5'8" guy who lists himself at 5'10" suddenly finds he has -far- higher response rates. They are hoping that in person the 5'5" woman who specified she wanted nobody shorter than 5'10" won't eliminate him for being just under her cutoff. ...he would rather have a chance than no chance basically. They are shaping their shallowness to the shallowness of the women who think 1-2" in height is the difference between a good relationship and a bad one.
That would work for the 5’5 woman, but im 5’7 and they can clearly see that listed on my profile. Why do they expect I’d be okay towering a 5’5 guy?
5'5" claiming 5'10" would obviously be hopeless. I don't date dudes (or anyone else at this point), but suspect most don't add more than an inch or two to their height to get to/over the 5'9"-5'10" cutoff women have. They are gambling that in person a 5'7" woman would be willing to settle for a guy who is merely two inches taller than her if he is otherwise acceptable. This btw is a huge difference between online dating and in-person dating. Online women are much quicker to eliminate 50%+ of the entire male population as unacceptable without even meeting them. In person they are more likely to give some weight to personality, etc, etc.
Op here, I am telling you that this is what happens. If they were just adding an inch it would be annoying but not aggravating. The guy I met recently has 5’10 on his profile and I was at least an inch taller than him while wearing flats !
