That’s wrong, the ringing bell is for the last lap of the lead swimmer in a distance race.

It's not just for the lead swimmer, each lane has an attendant who is also monitoring the turns for any violations who steps forward when the swimmer in that lane is approaching the wall for the last 100m and rings a bell over their heads. I saw it in the 1500m last night and thought it was very amusing.[/quote]

I noticed that tonight too! In the meets my kids do, even the big deal meets, it’s just been the lead swimmer. I guess at some point they add it for each lane.
