Usually the rule is that at least half the team has to book through the specified travel agency and, contrary to what you think, tournaments DO check where you’re staying. You have to list the hotel in the team information sheet and they DO call you out if the information is false. Tournaments make money from the bookings so they do care. You are lucky that half the families follow the rule so you can afford not to care and make your own arrangements. If it IS close enough (usually less than 100 miles) that you can drive home, you can get an exemption as a team. [/quote]
