On the one hand, I don't think it's a huge deal. The school won't really care. I'd actually worry more about your kid. On the other, this is a really bad attitude to take towards school this year. You probably know that, but the idea that you wouldn't switch around things to have your child attend school because it's inconvenient is... weird. This is real school. Not a private daycare.[/quote]

This poster literally said it wasn’t a big deal, but that inconvenience really isn’t enough to justify missing school. That’s completely correct. Lots of people treat PK3 as though it’s private daycare and it actually causes big problems for the teachers and class. As a one off, no big deal though.[/quote]

As a teacher I have seen kids come late and struggle the whole year as they are always behind trying to catch up. I have also seen parents do this and continue to do it throughout the school year, and continue every year on multiple occasions. Only time will tell. Setting schedules and routines help students become successful. Good luck either way.[/quote]

Different teacher - I mostly agree. It’s really annoying when kids miss because of planned vacations etc. however I wouldn’t say that missing 
 the first few days of school will lead to your child being behind all year. But it gets to be a real pain when parents want special accommodations and requests because their kid is missing school for a trip when they knew the calendar. But, your Pre K kid will be fine. Just don’t make it a habit. [/quote]
