It depends where your out of the area travels take you. If you're frequently going to points north via 95 (NYC, Philly, etc), or the DE/MD beaches, then the MD EZ pass is the better option, as you'll save money on the Baltimore tunnels and teh bay bridge. If the above doesn't apply, then VA EZ pass is your best bet.
This. For the first few years of having mine, it was specifically to use for EZPass lanes or the Bay Bridge toll and tolls on the way to Philly, so I got the MD one.
Wait, you pay a lower rate on the Md tolls with an Md EZPass than another state’s? I never realized that, thought they just had an EZPass rate or a cash rate. We’ve had a Pennsylvania one for years because it used to be the only state that didn’t charge an annual fee, but maybe I’ll switch to Maryland.
Yes, MD gives lower tolls on certain roads with the MD EZ pass. There's 3 prices: MD EZ price, price for all other EZ users, and cash price. See here: https://mdta.maryland.gov/Toll_Rates/rates_Index.html
Increase the E-ZPass Maryland discount from 10% to 37.5% at the Bay Bridge - toll drops from $5.40 to $2.50 round trip. Increase the E-ZPass Maryland discount from 10% to 25% for the Baltimore Harbor (I-895) and Fort McHenry (I-95) tunnels, the Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695), the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40) and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (I-95) - toll drops from $7.20 to $6 round trip - and for the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial/Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge (US 301) - toll drops from $5.40 to $4.50 round trip.
