American University.
Surfside recently opened in the building, but in the medium term, it's highly likely that AU will sell the site for denser, taller, mixed use. The large surface lot where Johnson's used to be is very attractive to a developer. With City Ridge (Fannie Mae), 4000 Wisconsin, etc., it's inevitable that the AU property gets redeveloped, along with the Channel 9 and McDonalds sites. DC wants to create a vibrant urban place setting in this area.
Vibrant urban place setting is apparently code for big box store/bank/Wawa. That is fine, but we need to acknowledge it for what it is. Our new densification campaign apparently equates to boring. I am ready to take a deeper look at the NIMBY argument. I like the idea of more housing but who would have though that it actually meant less neighborhood character. I guess I can hit up Target now for last minute birthday presents. Anybody know if the wrap?
