Never looked this up before: “ Can. 873 There is to be only one male sponsor or one female sponsor or one of each.” So it looks like you can get by with one but if you want a pair they have to be diverse. Technically, a non-Catholic “godparent” is a witness but not a sponsor because they themselves are not members. [/quote]
