McLean parent here. They botch it.
+5 - and ignore kids who have been with the club (meaning, don’t even look at them) for the shiny new object from another team.
This is every club. They have seen your kids all year round. Know how they are already so no need to really pay attention to them. Most of the times they already have in their mind how many they want to cut (for new players etc) so they know how many they want to take in.
Right, but the problem with this (and what McLean did specifically), is new kids that the year-round kids were running circles around were offered higher teams than said circle runners. It’s disappointing, though I expect there will be some movement in the fall.
What age group PP? Sounds like there might be a lot of animosity towards new kids coming into McLean. We are one such family, and this makes me nervous for my DD. Also make me nervous for the quality of play that will ensue if players really placed incorrectly.
I have heard this same complaint from parents at U10-U12. I think a lot of it has to do with the disorganization, mixed messaging and anxiety about new coaches. There is also so much subjectivity in the process. But I don’t disagree that there will have to be movement next year given the way the tryouts were handled (poorly).
