Maybe not 50/50, but we get scratched/unplayable discs pretty frequently -- maybe 1 or 2 of 10. Your rate probably varies with the kind of DVDs that are on your queue. We get a lot of kid stuff right now and my recollection is that adult stuff (R and PG-13 movies, TV shows) tend to be scratched more frequently. We just send them back and report the disc as damaged. It never occurred to me to be bothered by it, but I guess they should check discs once they get them back in to make sure they can be played before sending them to another customer.
Really? One those rare occasions when we finally get the kids in bed and aren't exhausted ourselves, and we sit down to watch a movie, and we're enjoying it, and then it cuts off after the first hour, it irritates the hell out of me! You must be one of those really calm, pleasant people who doesn't get annoyed by little things! I just think with the monthly cost, you shouldn't have to wash the DVDs with soap & water or repeatedly send them back for replacement when they are damaged. They should be able to send out discs that play properly. There was one movie that was damaged, we sent it back, and they sent us a second damaged disc of the same movie!!! I will have to check our DVD play to see if it's a Sony. Maybe it's "picky" like PP's.
