My junior is going to have a few Cs this year. It is what it is. Hardworking kid in AP classes, rough year due to a variety of circumstances. He will have around a 3.4 or 3.5 weighted GPA. ACT score pending, but practice was a 29. What 4 year schools should he be looking at that can look past a few bad grades in a craptastic year? Anywhere along the east coast, and any price point is fine.
Ouch, yes rough. So sorry. Kid may be smart also but some bad circumstances can be hard on thdm. I would also suggest going for 1 yr to community college and get direct admission to state flagship. You do not have to do 2 years (associate degree) and then go to state school, you can in some cases go after 1 yr. . It will be very advantageous because kid can work hard and make up for the lack of content knowledge from HS in CC and score well and be well prepared to do well in college. The transcript and degree does not say that it was from CC. BTW, this is something I have thought for my children too and they are high stat kids.
Op here, he is looking for a 4 year school. Not worried about getting into somewhere “better” later on.
