Field space is the key along with insurance, Remember waivers for children in the state of VA really aren't worth the paper they are written on.
This is the great barrier which sucks. We know some of the most talented coaches that wanted to do things their way, form a club and make it less bureaucratic and less overhead costs, less factory-like and more about the kids and even the best (some are now doing it in Europe and succeeding) unable to get the consistent field space or get in the leagues their players deserved to be in. I hate that it is this way. It was much easier many years ago---and I knew a few that ended up becoming #1 in the State after breaking off from a bigger Club. My son's trainer that left a big Club (was his Coach U9) and kept training him all the way through HS (had a lucrative day job) really wanted to assemble the kids he trained into a team. Most were incredible technical players that got lost in the big Club mix---but we could never figure out how to do it in a reliable way.
