https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/montgomery-elrich-climate-/2021/04/12/24baa5b0-97af-11eb-962b-78c1d8228819_story.html
When Marc Elrich led a 2017 effort by the Montgomery County Council to set some of the most ambitious climate goals in the country, he didn’t have a “a clear path” for how to reach them. At the time, Elrich (D) says, “we only had a clear desire.”

“When you’re an activist, you want everything tomorrow. I would ask for the same thing,” said Elrich, who as a young man was a member of the Students for a Democratic Society. “Figuring out how to get things done is different.”
This commenter summarized it perfectly:
Now that Elrich is the County Executive he realizes most of his social justice and climate change ideas are impractical to implement at the local level. Our local government should be concerned on providing good schools, roads, police and EMS services. At the same time they need to be fiscally responsible and not take on every feel good activist issue that comes along. Montgomery County has more than its fair share of wannabe hippies, but if you don't have a tax base to run a great county we are left with more takers than givers.
Ding ding ding. That’s Montgomery County. Navel gazing wokesters who are “alarmed and confused” when their utopian ideas are impossible to implement or they don’t work. I love how Marc Elrich, the socialist, is facing the ire of other socialists as he bungles his way finding out that socialism doesn’t work.
