I think that we need to get clarity on a few things. 1) How many spots are there in the class of 2024. The website states "The number of students who can be accepted to the sophomore class is based in part on student attritionStudents cheering at TJHSST. In recent years, the number of admitted sophomores has ranged between 5 to 15 students. ". However, the school board expanded the size of the class by 50. The current class has 450 students, so there SHOULD be room for 100 more students. 2) The Test. The website states "PSAT/SAT scores". However, There was a "next steps" that stated that the PSAT/SAT was going away for Sophmore/junior admissions.
From the "next steps". https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=AN5K2X4D2092 "289. Explain how this new process will work with the process to select Sophomore transfer students. The Sophomore Application process will remain a part of the admissions process. The testing component for Sophomores has been removed based on School Board vote at the meeting in October (eliminating the requirement of a PSAT/SAT). The remaining elements are still in place for Sophomore students to complete an application. If the School Board opts to utilize a holistic approach, no other changes would be required for the Sophomore Round. If the board opts to utilize the hybrid lottery, then a lottery approach would be used for our Sophomore Round applicants based on the Freshman model."
Does anyone know WHY the admissions office told the school board one thing and then turned around and NOW is implementing the opposite??? TJ is NOT planning for 100 additional sophomores. They are requiring teacher recommendations. They are (after this year) requiring an SAT/PSAT score. Why are they not following their own policies? The class of 2024 is currently profoundly broken. Why not actually follow the new policies and improve the rising sophomore class???
