How are they doing this? Are the rooms in their elementary schools gigantic?
They are relaxing 6 foot spacing for elementary school kids. They are trying to not overall relax it- but rather work with parents about which kids may already be in regular contact etc.
Really? They are asking which kids are hanging out together anyway? Mine attend an elementary school in a different district but I could see how this could cause lots of issues. Those kids can sit near each other now because they already socialize outside of school but others have to stay apart. It seems like it could cause potential problems in many areas.
I can see how you would see it that way, but that is not really how it plays out. They are spacing all desks at a minimum of 6 feet apart. Then they are surveying parents to see who is comfortable with less than 6 feet, and a parent can comment that, for example, they want their kid 6 feet from most other kids but Jony already carpools with Susy to swimming. So the teacher might choose to put Jony and Susy's desks 4 feet from one another. The teacher still retains control, so if she doesn't think its a good idea for Jony and Susy to be near one another, from a classroom management perspective, then they can set it up differently. There is zero research to support the idea that with universal mask wearing, 6 feet is safer than 3 feet. 6 feet is all about how far adults can spread a droplet when they cough and sneeze. Its taken on commandment like proportions. FCCPS lets kids play together at recess so long as they are wearing masks. FCCPS really empowers its teachers more than other systems- the teachers get to set up their own rooms, and figure out spacing etc (they get help- but they are more in control.)
