OP here, thanks for all your input! I think it's just FTM nerves...I know I won't practically be watching the video feed every minute, there is just some odd comfort in knowing I could check in and see whenever I'd like. That being said, I think that most daycares do do app reporting (sharing photos, updates, etc.) and that will probably be enough for me :) Also in response to the PP - would love to just have a nanny at home, but we can't afford that.
Our DD has been in a daycare with an app since 5 months (now 2yo). Daycare was closed temporarily and we used an in home temporarily with no app or written report. In some ways the app was actually anxiety inducing when she first started her current daycare. I was constantly worried about her naps and checking the app. I would get stressed out if they made a mistake inputing a feeding - like it would say they gave her water instead of breast milk and I would worry they actually gave water (it was just a data entry error). But now that she is older it is really nice to have the app to know what she did during the day. They also put in how much she ate (though we'd know this anyway based on what comes home since we provide food) which is helpful to know. She is a pretty reliable napper but occasionally she has a short nap and that is good to know. But the best thing is the photos - so fun and the grandparents get them too. With the in home with no app there was something nice about just leaving her with a person we trusted and not thinking about her naps/feedings during the work day, but it was bizarre to me to not have any record of what happened that day since there wasn't a written report either. Not trying to generalize about in homes, just speaking to my experience with that particular daycare. I think most daycares at least do a written report and that would be fine for us, though we would miss the convenience of the app.
