Salon color never damaged my hair; in fact, some of the brands contained conditioners which left my hair super-soft. Highlighting, however, is very drying and damaging. My hair would feel like straw after a highlight. OP, there are a lot of us who stopped coloring around a year ago and are enjoying the freedom of not having to continually dye our hair. Why go back to coloring if you really like your hair the way it is? Join one of the support groups on Facebook for women who are embracing their silvers, and you'll find lots of support for ditching the dye for good, and ideas for how to change your makeup and clothing to work with your new, natural hair color!
OP here - I don’t seem to see gray-haired women my age (or even older) out and about much. I’m really struggling with it. And I really am nearly 100% gray. I should check out those groups, it might help!
