You can switch from hybrid to DL but not the other way around. Our ACPS elementary school principal told parents at a meeting this week that he is keeping a list of families requesting to switch from DL to hybrid (but made no promises that it would be possible). I still think it’s a good idea for parents to let their principals know and for schools to collect that data and information.
Thank you. Do you know why that is? It doesn't seem fair to ask parents to make a firm decision about the unknown. Many people scared in December might not be now given the increased availability of vaccine.
Because after a YEAR of claiming they were getting ready, and planning, and preparing - they didn't actually intend for kids to come back this year. It was all lip service. So when Northam dropped the March 15th bomb they had pretty much nothing ready. So they have to go with the student choice numbers they have. No time to resurvey, no time to think through this rationally - just an all out panic to throw kids in school. ACPS at it's finest.
I think this is true. They're not prepared, despite having time to prepare. According to the admin at our elementary, even if there is room in a particular classroom, there will be no waitlist for kids who want to go from virtual to hybrid--a directive from central office--because they can't work out the transportation for immediate changes, and it would be inequitable to allow the kids who have access to their own transportation switch while those who don't can't. Just an FYI--in case anyone is thinking why they wouldn't want to get as many kids back as possible.
