My husband and I are just starting to TTC, so I've been researching ob/gyns and also trying to figure out what hospital I would prefer to deliver at. I have moderate to severe health anxiety, so I need a doctor who is very patient and will answer all of my questions thoroughly, but also be straight with me. I'd prefer to be with a small practice or solo practitioner so that they can get to know me and we can establish a good relationship, which will make it easier for the doctor to know when something might be seriously wrong vs. my brain telling me something is wrong for no reason. I will likely be low risk (no family history of complications, early 30s). I do see a therapist for anxiety, but health anxiety is one of the hardest types to treat. I'll ways just be managing it, so finding the right match for an ob is one of the ways I can help keep it in check. In terms of hospital, I've been to Sibley for the ER and had a good experience. I've also been to Howard and literally thought I would either die alone from lack of care or they would kill me due to their carelessness and completely unsanitary conditions. If the hospital doesn't seem like it's run well, I know I'll freak out. I'd prefer an unmedicated, vaginal birth, but of course you never know what could happen and I'm open to whatever my doctor says is best. I'm in close-in PG County but don't mind traveling for the right doctor. I see Foxhall, Bloom, and DeSouza recommended a lot here - are they worth the 30+ minute drive?
