What a difference a season makes! This summer the City Council stripped the MPD of many "riot-control" measures against the Mayor's wishes. While we all understand banning neck holds, they also banned tear gas and pepper spray and required the Mayor to ask federal authorities to do the same. Other riot-control measures are only allowed under imminent danger (and how does one establish that?) (https://wjla.com/news/local/dc-council-unanimously-passes-police-reform-bill-bans-neck-restraints) Yet as we know, on 1/6 MPD responded to riots on Capitol Hill and saved the day. Tear gas and pepper spray were also deployed by some policing agency in the Rotunda to save legislators. This strikes against our Council's wishes and legislation. https://fox28spokane.com/the-latest-police-use-tear-gas-to-clear-capitol-grounds/) As we know, all kinds of car crimes have alarmingly spiked in DC this year. Many of the perps are juveniles who enter DC Youth Reformation Act revolving door, now pretty much extended to age 26 by our City Council and criminal reform Cheerleader in Chief, Charles Allen. Car pursuits are banned. Last night there were 3 armed car-jackings in AU Park (1/11), by carjackers waving AK-47s. Police gave pursuit a caught a couple of the perps. At least one was a juvenile (of course). So which is it? Tear gas and vehicular pursuit sure came in handy this past week! It has been a rough week in DC, and thank god for law enforcement even with all the apparent contradictions.
