But more important, since the conversation initially was about child rearing, these towns are known for very rigorous and competitive high schools which is both a curse and a blessing. There are kids who would greatly benefit from an environment like this and others who would absolutely not. From my experience (my kids are in college now), for the type of kid who benefits, there are other ways to make it up, as long as the zoned HS is “good enough”. But for the other one, if there is no escape valve, it can be a disaster. The rate of learning disabilities/ special needs services in Scarsdale public schools is astonishing - many are trying to hang on by any means possible. [/quote]
