DH came from work and was directed up to me no problem, and stayed with me through the surgery. DH could leave the hospital once per day and return, and went home did every day after breakfast to feed the cat and get some rest because the pull out chairs in the recovery rooms were super not comfortable. The nurses provided plenty of support, so I felt very comfortable with him not being there the entire day. The nurses and doctors clearly know what they are doing and care deeply, so even though things were a bit challenging with scheduling and the sudden delivery date, it felt like no one was thrown for a loop (except me, which they took into account which was nice) and everyone and everything fell right into place. I appreciated how the nurses didn’t assume what I knew, and I took them up on every chance they gave me for learning what to do, not to do, what’s OK, not OK, etc. I never felt abandoned or unsupported, and nothing could surprise them.

A couple things- 
If you want to formula feed, or want to supplement at the hospital while your milk comes in, definitely speak up. My milk was slow to come in, but I didn’t want her and us to suffer until she lost too much weight, so I asked for formula the second night. They had me sign a waiver, and then returned with everything I needed and the nurse showed us how to measure it out and feed her with the syringe. DD had 10ml and slept for 4 hours! The poor dear...

The rooms really are tiny. Once the chair-bed is unfolded for your support person, there’s no room to maneuver. And there’s no storage like a dresser-I used the deep windowsill to unpack. So pack really light. We were supposed to wear masks anytime anyone was in our room, but DH and I forgot and no one reminded us.

I wouldn’t try to schedule the csection through central scheduling if that’s where you’re having trouble. You may want to message the doctor you want through the patient portal and ask when they can schedule you. My doctor scheduled me during one of my office visits, so they have access to the calendars too. It’s more extremely well controlled chaos than disorganization.

Parking is crazy. But also staffed by humane people. There was no issue for me in them keeping my car for a few days after valeting it, and we had access to it too.
