Yes, LCPS will almost certainly use a concurrent model for secondary schools in semester 2. The overwhelming majority of secondary principals prefer it to the separate hybrid/DL model. It’s less clear for ES.
Is concurrent basically the same as DL but inside the classroom? If so, besides asking questions in person what other real benefits are there? The exposure is there and cases will spike. Is that better than DL?
I think it depends on the school. At our MS it will not be like this at all. A portion of each class will be direct lecture to all students like this, but after that there will be various other things going on, from breakout rooms to small groups, etc. We are part of the pilot and our principal is very pro-concurrent. For kids that want to go back to school, concurrent is the only option. Separate hybrid and DL is not logistically workable for master schedules, so the alternative to concurrent is staying all DL which we are not interested in. I’m so glad our principal supports hybrid, supports concurrent, and because we have additional capacity, should not have any issues getting all students who wish to in the school 2 days per week. A strong principal makes a big difference. Our ES principal not so much.
