Good day, I'm just trying to find out some information for the DC United academy teams u14 and u15. When do they hold tryouts? I know practice fields was an issue for DC teams due to COVID, but I'm not sure if DC United was affected. I've also been searching for game schedules for the 2 mentioned age groups. Are they currently playing?
Where does your kid currently play? DCU has a relationship with a number of local clubs, talks to the coaches, scouts their games, and invites some of the kids to monthly practices known as "P2P". It's not clear whether P2P is happening right now due to covid. Outside of these clubs I'm not convinced DCU scouts widely and this this is probably your most likely route in - I'm not aware of too many kids who make it in via other routes. Clubs which have good contacts into DCU are Arlington, VDA, Pipeline, and Alexandria. I assume that SYC and Achilles may now be in the loop as well given their inlcusion in MLS Next but haven't seen hard evidence of this myself. I also know that Bethesda sends the occasional player to DCU although they don't seem to send kids to the P2P sessons. Schedule here: https://system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/1271/schedules?group=8343 You could try e-mailing Dave Sanford directly as well and see if you can set up a tryout or get him to come and scout a game - click on the link on this page: https://www.dcunited.com/academy/coaches-and-staff.
We just moved here 3 months ago and we now have custody of my 2 nephews from Brazil. My coworker has mentioned Bethesda, Baltimore Armour, DC United, Pipeline and MD United. With the last 2 places being their bottom choice. Does any of the other places mentioned have a U14 team? Or does DC United U15 roster 07 kids also? I"m trying to avoid having them play at separate clubs
DCU does not have a U14 team. They have rostered 07 kids in the past, but I am not aware of any on the U-15 team this year. I would put your options in the following order: 1. Arlington. Good coaching across the board and strong teams. Best route to DC United. Strong 06 and 07 teams - which also practice at same time/location. Plays in ECNL this year, although may return to MLS Next next year. If you are in MD you might decide this is too far for you, although there are a few kids from Maryland who play here. 2. Baltimore/Pipeline. I would give a slight edge to Baltimore in terms of team strength and coaching and Baltimore plays in MLS Next (more competitive league) where Pipeline plays in ECNL. On the other hand Pipeline particpates in P2P with DC United. Both these clubs play in Baltimore, so again - depending on where you live - you might decide these are too far. 3. Bethesda. Best club in MD suburbs. Plays in MLS Next. Has some good coaches - but not across the board. 4. Alexandria. Definitely fourth choice + also further to travel. You might want to consider Alexandria for futsal though as they have a strong program, and I believe (not certain) that the futsal teams operate independently of the 11v11 teams. I wouldn't look outside this group if the boys are good.
