I’m more sentimental than my parents and kids. My parents have no problem through out anything they don’t need or giving it away. They gave away all of our family Christmas ornaments and threw away my childhood collections - I’m still upset about that. It has never even occurred to them to ask if I want those, and they had plenty of space to store them.
