Thank you! We are looking in Edgewater but the area a bit to the south (in bounds for Southern) seems to be an easier commute to DC. That said, we are hoping that the covid experience allows for more telework flexibility going forward. And good schools with a healthy contingent of college-bound kids are a big priority for us. Good to know about the mix of families. The Trumpsters might be hard to bear and would definitely be a change for our family. If you have family-friendly neighborhoods to recommend I'd love to hear about them. Just driving around right now it is difficult to get a sense, especially without the normal restaurant activity etc.
Not sure what your price range is but look in the Gingerville neighborhood off of route 2 on the north side of the bridge. I would also look at neighborhoods off of Riva Road between the Riva Road bridge and rt. 214. I'll be honest some of the neighborhoods look somewhat "interesting" from the main road but once you get up in the neighborhoods there are some nice looking houses. There is also a nice neighborhood up rt. 214 closer to the PG line that I've ridden through and it looked promising. Again, I have no idea what your price range is or what you are looking for. But the area down Mayo Road is a bit sketchy as far as drugs and criminal activity (between rt. 2 and the Royal Farms). South River does a good group of college bound graduates especially because the STEM program is there but a number of non-STEM go to college.
