Can you put the dresser in the living room? Yes, the baby needs total darkness to sleep. It's part of how you teach them to go to sleep. Yes, you can put the crib in the living room. Why not? It's your baby - you can put them anywhere in your home that you want.
I found that some light was better for sleep training. Not disagreeing but providing another input to show babies are unique and different things work for different ones. First baby all about the black out curtains - terrible sleeper if not in complete darkness. Made travel terrible, also just in general. Woke up constantly. This hasn’t gone away; she’s 13. We call her the princess and the pea as she still needs ideal conditions. Sleep consultant for second baby recommended napping in sunlight and a night light at night. That baby sleeps in any condition great. Same with younger sibling where I added light for sleeping. Ages 11 and 6. Awesome sleepers. Both slept through at 4 months and minimal/no regressions. Babies respond differently so do whatever works best. Try what you need to OP.
