Will YOU be wearing a mask to protect the nanny? If not, then get bent. Also I’m expect your nanny to quit if you ask her to protect you by wearing a mask, while you don’t wear one to protect her.
Obviously protection goes both ways.... but I think you are overreacting. (And channeling a recent NYT article regarding housekeepers.) It is reasonable for nanny and adults in the house to wear a mask around each other. (Not reasonable for parents to wear a mask in their home office when the nanny isn’t around). It likely is unreasonable for little kids to wear masks for 8 hours a day. Children under 2 shouldn’t wear a mask in any case. So the question becomes should a nanny wear a mask around the kids? I recently hired a nanny and I did not ask her to wear a mask. I considered it though. I did ask her to wear a mask when outside her/our house. But ultimately I felt like if she were wearing a mask around my kids, my kids would be constantly grabbing it. I also considered she would likely need to go through multiple masks a day for hygiene reasons. I also considered the mask would need to come off anyway for eating a drinking. So I decided that hiring a seemingly reasonable person who was seemingly taking reasonable precautions was enough.
