The exception would be if you are extra anxious and need some hand holding from the beginning (I don't mean this in a derogatory way- my practice does'nt really do much handholding/holistic support all the appointments are really quick so if I had had a less easy pregnancy and needed more support the doula would probably have been who I would have turned to).
