What is the consumer's right when it comes to recalls and refunds? I called Macy's earlier because I was going to bring my pot in. I'm not thrilled about the recall but I'm also not thrilled about the idea of the enamel chipping off and burning me. The store clerk was rude and extremely unhelpful, she told me w/out the box (which has the barcode) or the receipt that I would get the lowest selling price that the item has gone for in the past 180 days.

Now a few things about that bother me.

1. This is a recall for a possibly defective item, not something I don't want any longer.
2. This is not my fault, this is the manufacturer's error and Macy's error.
3. There are roughly one million units being recalled. I'd like to replace this item. I have no idea what I paid over a year ago, why would I save the receipt for something I planned on keeping. Why should I take a loss on an item that I am essentially being told to return?
4.When I asked if I could just exchange the cast iron pot for the same item if there was one that was not on the recall list I was told I could apply my "credit" to the new item. Why can't I just have the exchange?

I thought their were guidelines to recalls and Macy's had to treat this as a recall, not a return w/out a receipt. Am I missing something here?[/quote]
