At least the landlord was willing to work on something with you re: utility bills. A drop in the bucket but he could have done nothing at all.

It sucks but a contract is a contract. My brother is paying rent on a building for his business while also paying the mortgage on his business's new building -- bought just before covid hit and shut down his business entirely due to "essential business only" orders in his state. They didn't even have time to move before they had to shut and so now are stuck paying both rent and a mortgage. He's not complaining. Yet a lot of parents complain here about college apartment rent. There are far worse situations to be in than yours, OP. [/quote]
