My bet is on McLean and Loudoun and non-ECNL teams. The DA closure is good for local youth soccer. Instead of 7 teams playing in elite travel soccer leagues, we will only have four. Mclean will increase its profile as former DA players from Arlington and MU and a few from FCV, make their way to McLean. There will be more than a few players who were from Loudoun before moving to FCV and who now will return to Loudoun. I also see strong local non-ECNL benefiting from girls who aren't on ECNL rosters but who played ECNL and DA last year. The process will be painful for many but there will be opportunity.
Notice that you didn’t mention “kids” as a beneficiary.
It’s actually a bad thing there will be less elite options. So at u12(pre-ecnl now) you determine who is and who is not an elite player? I see girls at u12 who are maxing out their play(they are at 100% on every play but there is no upside) and I see other girls who are in cruise control(ie they have a huge up side-skill and/or athleticism but only go 100% a few times a game) but they are 11-12 years old. In three years who knows what you will have? If I am a coach I could see taking the maxed out player over the huge upside because I only care about winning this year. Remember you are cutting the rosters basically in 1/2 for “elite” kids. Also you will lose kids because the drive to practice is too much. The current ecnl clubs are great if you live outside the beltway in Va and Montgomery County but if you live in PG, DC and some parts of Alexandria/Arlington it’s may not be an option. This will just reenforce the win at each age group mentality and make soccer even more of a must have money to play sport.
