I tend to think that teams will be mostly the same. There may be a little movement, but I think that might be smaller than normal.
If you are in McLean, sure. But Springfield, Alexandria, Prince William are likely to see significant contractions. 33% of parents on one of my kids teams are out of work already.
You are correct, and I wasn't thinking about those people who may not be able to afford soccer next year. I was thinking more about the actual tryouts......and timing wise I wasn't sure there would be alot of movement. Taking the joblessness into account I do think you are right.
Using that train of thought, it’s the smaller clubs that will hurt. If fewer people return, big clubs can burden that. Smaller clubs won’t. Which could be even worse for smaller clubs, because that could mean a small club seeing fewer people return due to economics means players that due return to smaller club may no longer be that competitive and want to go to larger club to stay competitive.
Hard to say. We have a child on a top team at a big club and I am guessing we'll lose 40% of players, maybe half, on the top team if play resumes in the fall (and maybe two-thirds if they try to play in the summer). Different reasons across the board but there will undoubtedly be a dip even among top teams at big clubs at younger ages. Now of course they can promote others from other teams, but that just means the second team will lose players, etc. etc But economically I think you are right - there may be a few clubs that will have trouble fielding a good top team at all. If I were a top player on a smaller club in the U9-U12 range, I would definitely look to go to a bigger club because there will be spots available for highly talented players. Or perhaps the smaller clubs should really be talking about fielding some joint teams in the fall in younger ages.
