Over the last two weeks, several neighborhood kids and friends of ours haven been sick. Most have missed a few days of school. BUT... They still bring the children to scout meetings and soccer practice and other events. I kept my son home yesterday because he had a sore throat & cough and took him to the doctor. He tested positive for flu B (and yes he was vaccinated). Our scout pack has an event scheduled for tonight. I volunteered to help up set up as well as bring things, so I let the leaders and other volunteers know we couldn’t make it. The two moms that had sick kids they still took to everything are of course asking if I need any help, etc. Our older son has a birthday party Saturday, and the germaphobe mom wants to ensure her children don’t get near my sick child. I reassured her that he isn’t going to the party. Just venting... wish people would keep sick kids home from everything, not just school. It’s a bummer my younger son has to miss his brother’s party, but it’s the right thing to do. He probably wouldn’t be sick if the sick kids weren’t at scout meetings and soccer practice. Parents don’t send them to school because our schools are vigilant about sending home sick kids... but no one gets sent home from practice or scouts since they are only 1-2 hours. The coaches and leaders assume you would keep your sick kids home.
