I am a member. We live in Arlington and only go on the weekends. I have 1 little guy (5) and three older children who are in various stages of young adulthood from age 14-20, and they spend summer and holiday breaks with us. I like it because it comes with three free hours of childcare, and the childcare center is nice and includes free programs like parkour, dance, and rock climbing (which I think is now $10). The workout facilities and locker facilities are nice, and what I like is that they are big and spacious and don't seem crowded even on the weekends. The little guy also loves the water park, which is included in the membership. But he requires supervision there, so I don't like it that much haha!We also take him to the artificial turf (the "field house") to do T ball and run around. They have open gym in their gymnastics studio too, where he can bounce around. My big kids absolutely love it. The 14 yo is a swimmer and loves the long course. The older two are 18 and 19, and they like the nice facilities for working out. They have an elementary kids area, called the Super Awesome Amazing. It's not free except for certain inconvenient times, so I haven't taken the 5 yo there, but now that he's a bit older I may start. The thing is, you have to watch your kids - you cannot just leave them there while you work out. They are a little loosey goosey on what the rules are, but when I inquired, they said you'd need to be 12. For my age kids, the St. James is awesome. It kind of functions like a country club for our family. We all exercise and do classes and get a nice meal at their restaurant. We bring guests. It's fun. For your age, you'll be doing everything WITH them- they are kind of too old for the daycare, but not old enough to be left on their own. If you want to bring them or rock climbing, basketball courts, ice skating, the field house, the water park, the super awesome amazing - there are lots of things to bring them to do, but you have to be with them, and some of the stuff isn't free even for members. Overall it works for us, but it might not be quite the right thing for everyone. You can absolutely check it out - make an appointment. It's a lot to take in - I made an appointment and took two girlfriends. We didn't ask for a tour and we just toured it ourselves and talked to the staff about what things cost. Tour it without the kids so you can get a real sense of it and enjoy a workout. Sorry I don't know the cost of day passes etc.
