She says one of the rooms has cool air blowing out still and the teacher is wearing a coat, too. I’m so frustrated with the facilities here, and the lack of any improvements done here while MCPS blows money on redistricting proposals. Let’s take care of some basic needs first.
Eastern is ridiculously overdue for an overhaul. If your child is in a portable, those can get very drafty in the winter. I remember when my child had that same issue at Eatern. I don't think its about the redistricting proposal - that's a drop in the bucket $$ compared to renovating a school. I do feel that Eastern gets back-burnered because it doesn't have a neighborhood population that are strong advocates like the MSs in Potomac/Bethesda. If those MS parents who complain about overcrowding and field conditions had to have their children in Eastern's basic school conditions, you can bet that Eastern would have been overhauled by now. Now the $$ is slated to go towards additions to Westbrook, Somerset, a new ES in North Bethesda, etc. Not saying those aren't all vitally needed - but, at least those schools have proper heat and a/c currently. From 2015 CIP: "Capital Project: A revitalization/expansion project was scheduled for this school for completion in August 2021. Although the County Council approved the planning funds on the Board of Education’s requested schedule, the construction funds were delayed by one year. FY 2018 funds expenditures are programmed to begin the architectural design for the revitalization/expansion project of this school. The revised completion date for this school will be August 2022. FY 2017 expenditures are programmed for facility planning funds to determine the scope and cost for the project. In order for this project to be completed on the new schedule, county and state funding must be provided at the levels approved in this CIP." From 2019 CIP: "Eastern Middle School Capital Project: A revitalization/expansion project was previously programmed for this school. A new program has been developed to identify large-scale renovations of facilities. While nine schools were identified as the first group of schools in the Major Capital Projects project, Eastern Middle School is now identified as a school in the next round. The recommended CIP does not include any expenditures for this project, however, future expenditures will be considered as part of the next full CIP cycle. Additional information regarding the major capital projects can be found in Supplement C—FY2021–2026 Major Capital Projects Update at the following link: www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/ planning/cipmaster.aspx"
